I think the picture taking game you're mentioning is Fatal Frame.

I hated this game. Terribly boring story, god-awful ending, everything about it is uninspired and ridiculous. Chopin would be rolling in his grave to have his name associated with this JRPG shit.

I'm not very far into Eternal Sonata, only in chapter 2, and so far I've really enjoyed it. I'm really looking forward to playing through the rest of it as well.
