Portraits of FAYUM ...gaze into Eternity
Music:Ross Daly "Bayati" from IRIS

FAYUM-Mummy portraits
Portraits have been found in all parts of Egypt, but are especially common in the Fayum Basin, particularly from Hawara and Antinoopolis.
The portraits covered the faces of bodies that were mummified for burial.Almost all have been detached from the mummies.
In termes of artistic tradition, the images clearly derives more from Greco-Roman traditions than Egyptian ones.
The population of Fayum area was greatly enhanced by a wave of Greek emigrants during the Ptolemaic period, initially by veterans soldiers who settled in the area.
The majority images show a formal portrait of a single figure, facing and looking toward the viewer.
from an angle that is usually slightly turned from full face.
The figures are presented as busts against a monochrome background wich in some instances is decorated.
The individuals are both male and female and range, in age from childhood to old age.

  • The Egyptian Empires power reached out as far as Iraq. Go review a bunch literature cause obviously you haven't. Plenty more will take the words of proclaimed Egyptologist over yours. If you actually knew about this subject we wouldn't have this conversation. History is too broad to explain. Tired of going over this with supposedly knowledgeable people that won't admit they aren't. Nice chatting with you, have a good life!

  • @albertosol1977 u know how far persian gulf is from punt? so where did they come from? which one? ancient Egyptians are a mix of african, european and asian. cuz Egypt is the cross road of the 3 continents !

  • @kimokamal5 Well several Egyptologist including Flinders Petrie. Who was one of the founding fathers of Egyptology stated that the ancient Egyptians viewed the Land of Punt as their ancestral homeland. "The Making of Egypt" (1939) Petrie states on page 77. "They went down the Persian Gulf and settled in the "horn of Africa." There they named the "Land of Punt," sacred to later Egyptians as the source of the race." Also Jon Manchip White, E. A. Wallis Budge and many others have stated the same.
