Theres probably coyotes in the area foxes usually do that when a coyote or something is near its puppies or somethin.

This was in Virginia, so I doubt there were any coyotes around.

It is a fox...but there are PLENTY of coyotes in Virginia! Their range has expanded greatly in modern times. Coyotes were first found to be expanding into Virginia in the 1950's.

I think all US states (except Hawaii) now have coyotes. One was recently found in Central Park in New York City.

I also lived around Virginia, and theres foxes EVERYWHERE, When I was a kid I would nearly pee my pants each time I heard a fox ( my window was in front of the woods)

when me and family first move into the house we have now we heard that one night so me and my dad both got flashlights and 12 guages and begain looking into the 200 acre woods looking for someone getting raped but we al we found was a fox screaming like that so...we shot him anyway for waking us up lol.
