  • I love this jingle! It's obviously a take-off on The Strangeloves' 1966 classic "I want Candy" which was later rerecorded by Bow Wow Wow in the 1980's. I remember the jingle very well!

  • You'll also notice that "I Want Candy" sounds somewhat like The Hand Jive.

  • I don't know what they were on when they made this commercial, but I want some.

  • A very similar jingle was used in an early 1980s Canadian commercial for Cadbury's Easter Creme Eggs. It's up on YouTube as well, posted by a user called Retrontario.

  • @spy4863 more like bo diddley, who I've been told is the performer.

  • I vaguely remember this! I was 7 or 8....

  • I've been looking for a vid of the Lifesavers commercial from the 80's "Tweet tweet, twiddle twiddle, there's only one candy with the hole in the middle." If anyone finds it, let me know. Thanks

  • omg i think i actually remember this commercial when i was a baby...weird flashback....

  • "Hey Lifesavers!"

  • The music used for this jingle has what's known as the "Bo Diddley beat," which you find in the song "Bo Diddley" as well as in "Willie and the Hand Jive" and "I Want Candy." It's not copyrightable...I remember this ad from my childhood Saturdays. True, I don't think you could get away with "Suck 'em slow or suck 'em fast" or "fun to lick" today, especially with that image of the submarine trying to go through the Lifesaver hole! Way too Freudian! But we kids thought nothing of it back then!

  • Note to MVillani1985 & spy4863:

Agreed..One wonders if the ad campaignsters paid the proper royalty quid to either composer(s)...lest the suffered the same fate as George Harrison ("My Sweet Lord" B.K.A. "He's So Fine").

That said, the advert proper was a *gas* to re-visit...the animation and music was/is *spot on!*

    Thanx fer this, m8...
