  • The Dutchman was written by the wonderful Michael Peter Smith. He is an amazing songwriter and if you track down any of his CDs you will be rewarded.

  • cubby1102, this youtube recording keeps sticking at 0:32. Do you know why? Is it possible to correct? I would love to be able to watch this version of "The Dutchman". Thanks.

  • @vacationjunky1, I hadn't seen this problem before, but checked it out and you are right. I will try re uploading and see what happens.

  • @tintosangre This was about as old as Steve Goodman got. He died about a year & a half later. Such a loss. Watch Penny Evans or You're the Girl I Love to see a really young Steve Goodman. Immense talent, largely unrecognized.

  • Brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it. Such a sweet, sad song.

  • Steve Goodman left us far too early

  • the smile on Jethro's face at 3:25 says it all

  • Quite a different experience listening to this wonderful song now than it was then. What a talent.

  • Steve will always be the the young man in these videos. thx so much for the upload. wonderful song. amazing interpretation we'll never see again and reminds me f back in the days. thx so much!

  • @carljj22 agreed

I heard this song dozens of times by Mike Smith and Barbara Barrow and I agree about the tempo. The original is much better. The song is to be savored not devoured.

  • Steve,Liam Clancy,Kingston trio, not even Kieth Harkins-who I have to admit is very moving-can compare to the incomparable Barbara Barrow. Listen to it in a woman's voice and a beautiful one at that.

  • I first heard Bob Shane perform this song with Jim Connor and Pat Horine as The New Kingston Trio in 1972 and it blew me completely away. I also enjoyed Steve's slower version and this video is simply a treasure with Jethro Burns of Homer & Jethro. Thanks so much for uploading this video.
