@tintosangre This was about as old as Steve Goodman got. He died about a year & a half later. Such a loss. Watch Penny Evans or You're the Girl I Love to see a really young Steve Goodman. Immense talent, largely unrecognized.

Brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it. Such a sweet, sad song.

I heard this song dozens of times by Mike Smith and Barbara Barrow and I agree about the tempo. The original is much better. The song is to be savored not devoured.

Steve,Liam Clancy,Kingston trio, not even Kieth Harkins-who I have to admit is very moving-can compare to the incomparable Barbara Barrow. Listen to it in a woman's voice and a beautiful one at that.

I first heard Bob Shane perform this song with Jim Connor and Pat Horine as The New Kingston Trio in 1972 and it blew me completely away. I also enjoyed Steve's slower version and this video is simply a treasure with Jethro Burns of Homer & Jethro. Thanks so much for uploading this video.
The Dutchman was written by the wonderful Michael Peter Smith. He is an amazing songwriter and if you track down any of his CDs you will be rewarded.

cubby1102, this youtube recording keeps sticking at 0:32. Do you know why? Is it possible to correct? I would love to be able to watch this version of "The Dutchman". Thanks.
