My primary school did Operation Christmas Child every year. My mum got annoyed at me because I kept giving up all my brand new books and toys two days after I received them. It's sad that some countries don't allow it to operate there because of religion...
I didn't know that about the UK Salvation Army. I thought they were all one in the same, sorry. If there's a way for us US folks to support/participate in the UK SA, I'm all for it then of course :P Also, I'd like that to happen to only the leaders of the Mormon church so that others can have a chance to convert to normal none haters like 65% of the US population (give or take 5%). Some of those Mormon guys are really cute :P and I'd love to show them the ropes LOL!!!
Which reminds me I wrote to our local MP to enquire as to why Mormon "Elders" were granted visas & permission to enter the UK..They are here on business after all & it is a business the vast majority of the population are very much against.
Sadly the MP in question is the ludicrous Ruth Kelly & as yet I have had no reply.....I imagine she is busy stealing more of our money & so has had no time to reply.
I think it's just something about America that means religious groups are compelled to be either insane or evil or both.
While I'm very much against religion in all it's forms, I have to stick up for the UK Salvation Army as they are generally a nice bunch of folks that do a lot of good, especially with the elderly. They are also usually gracious enough to not even mention religion.
The Mormons on the other hand should be set on fire and introduced to a trebuchet...
You understand that The Project For Awesome is rather larger than Ali & that rather a lot of the people involved are neither spoilt nor brats...Ali included.
....and really who the feck complains about someone asking you to do a good deed at this time of year, I mean really?
The Salvation Army is just another Mormon organization who hates gays. I tried getting a job here locally but once they found out I'm gay, they didn't hire me and I found out from a friend of mine who already works for them. I've made my donations and community services to Goodwill instead and always have in the past since then. People in need are still being helped. Salvation Army lovers who now hate me for saying that can now should question the Salvation Army for their hate crimes.
We save our new shoe boxes all year long in the garage. In December I fill them up and ours are sent to Mexico. I have personally seen the pictures that came back of little children sitting in the dirt and opening the shoebox for Christmas. It is an amazing charity because it is so easy to help. The poverty in our world is unreal. We pack our boxes a full as we can with socks, toys, underwear, grooming items, pens, pencils, t-shirts, cups, spoons, and anything else a child would like. Thanks!!
