Here I am launching myself from Lijac in Slovenia. It starts off very nicely, but then I sat back in the harness too soon... and impacted the ground on the edge of the launch point, before 50 feet down the cliff edge.

  • please tell me what you think about my comment below

  • Forward launch is good when there is little or no wind. The accident happened because there wasn't much wind (in fact, I think there might even have been a bit of a tailwind). I should have compensated for this by keeping running. Live and learn!

  • are you tired? are you dont learn this or is your school not serious?

  • I did learn it... I just forgot it. Experience: it's what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!!

  • run.... run... run... !!!

  • Yeah, now you tell me :)

  • He jumped into the air and sits back into his harness before he was really flying - then the wing swings in front of him a bit and hit is butt which caused the frontal. You should be in torpedo and keep on running - and keep those legs down in case you need them again. If he'd done that he wouldn't have had any problems.

  • Keep running, don't sit back in the harness too early

  • Some people say, the first part of the start was fine. I don't think so.

The brakes are pulled down far too early, even before the canopy is over the pilot. Press pause when the hands are down and you see what I mean. The control look to the wing is there, but only to one side.

But the main thing was of course sitting too early, and at the same time releasing the breaks. The wing shoots forward and the pilot swings behind it like a pendulum, hitting the ground.

  • there was nothing wrong with the start, just don't try to sit down before your like 100m away..

  • You are so deep in the brakes during inflation. The glider needs energy to launch... just a thought

  • he didnt jump. watch hes hands: he was actually braking while running, when he sat in he harnas only then he stopped braking. he should have done just the opposite.

  • @nz3Dmodels Agreed, except the "hands up" part. It's very important to keep little breaks while taking off.

  • You simply sat too early

  • keep runing

  • I just think you jumped thinking you would be already flying (that made u sit too early).

Dont jump if the glider is not flying you. Keep runing and always maintain direction (that's very important).

    1. Hands UP

    2. Run run run

    3. Dont jump

    4. Keep direction before sitting

The rest comes with practice. Im not an expert, I just got my PG1 and PG2 done. I had to sell my glider due to the recession. I miss it a lot. Thats life. I was dreaming about doing a SIV Course. =/

  • Why is this titled "how not to do a forward launch"? The forward launch looks good in my humble experience but you just sit in the harness too early. The same would hapenned with forward or reverse launch.

  • Need bit more run without brake.
