Charted at #100 on Billboard Hot 100 in March 1961. The Texans are actually Johnny Burnette and Dorsey Burnette, who co-wrote and perform this instrumental. This was their only Hot 100 entry under the name of "The Texans" but they had plenty of their own hits under their own names.

  • This is another great instrumental that went top 40 during the height of the doowop era of R&R. It was a minor hit here in Vancouver and I didn't hear it all to often like I did twangin' Duane Eddy, who had quite a few instrumentals. This instrumental reminds me of Ghost Riders in the Sky by the Ramrods..they have something in common, and it isn't the titles. Perhaps a cattle drive, involving a hundred steers, with a dozen cowboys trying to keep the herd in tac. Anyway thx4 postin'a classic

  • @Ezdduf4kuZ You're welcome!!!!

  • One of my favorite rock instrumentals of all time that nobody ever heard of. I remember it well from 1961.

  • Thanks for your comment! It's also a rare recording that fades in with the sound.

  • bought this way back in the early 60s because it was played so often on the juke box at Garner State park. I have the 45. love it. Dicky Taylor could flat dance the whip to that!!!

  • Looked for several years to find this 45 - finally located in a small record store in Ohio............love it...........thanks for the post...

  • billy vaughn and his orchestra did a good version too

  • Way cool !! Have not heard this tune since it was on air back in the day, in Vancouver, BC. It made it to 23 in early march/61.

  • Boy I can remember this like it was yesterday and all the decades have passed as will as the brothers...they were good friends.

  • Hey I thought i was the only one who ever knew about this song! I guess not!
