The silo needed a new unloader and floor. The unloader we're replacing is well over 50 years old, so it really doesn't owe us anything. We're replacing it with a rebuilt one from another silo since the high moisture shelled corn (HMSC) doesn't wear on the machine like the forage does.

  • The cutter chain has too many teeth on it for high moisture corn. If its a 20' wide silo run a total of about 10-14 teeth maximum, evenly spaced with 2 #1 hooks. Unloader runs/starts too hard with this many teeth in hmsc.

  • @budd5670 We pulled out the old Hercules unloader and were using the Model 92 Goliath to clean out the remaining HMSC. We removed lots of hooks before filing the silo with HMSC. The Hercules came out in pieces (55 years old), so we were in a rush to clean things out and put the new floor in.

Good eye on the hooks. Do you work on Harvestores?

  • A Harvestore HM silo only gave me problems!

  • @mandtconstruct We love our blue tubes! For our size farm, the make the most sense.

  • harvestores take forever to unload silage. we have 4 empty ones on our farm. they are between our stave silos full of hmsc and our feed bunks

  • I worked for my neighbor for quite a few years, and help them from time to time when they need help. We live in NY State. We service Harvestores, unloaders, conveyors. Been around these for quite a few years, we had one on our farm too, it was in haylage though. Keep your back casting from your Herc, its the same as your Goliath, only the casting though, not the gears. Its prolly in good shape being in hmsc. Nothing else is the same on the Herc to Goliath though. Did u put in a epoxy floor??
