I love it, he seems to be super qualifying his statement then just comes out and says what we all feel. A servant to the president?? WTF???

You are not alone Penn! After I threw up in my mouth a little when I saw that video I shuttered at how unamerican it was. It scares the hell out of me that they want me to pledge myself to my neighbor. Echos of communism and facism are obvious. Pledges are designed to bind and obligate a person even against their own will. That is not freedom. I will not forsake my freewill for my neighbor. Give me liberty or give me death.

I like President Obama, and I think he is a smart, ambitious and eloquent man, but to "pledge to be a servant" to him goes to far for me.

America is a land of equal OPPORTUNITY, not complete equality. Everyone starts out with the same chances as everyone eles in America. It just depends on how hard they work and how they use their resources to better their education. Of course this is becoming harder to live by because of government interference.

that is completely ridiculous, you cant have equal opportunity unless you have equal access to resources. not everyone can go to college, not everyone can travel abroad and open new opportunities for themselves.. this is an age old, extremely flawed assumption that has absolutely no basis in reality. I would concede that for a few people, working hard does yield great benefit but for most, it only serves capitalists. My grandmother worked her entire life and doesn't even own a decent car.

Capitalism in not perfect. I will admit that, but it is the best thing that we could ever come up with. Socialism has not worked at all. Sorry bud, but until God comes back nothing in society will ever be perfect.

what?!? where is you proof for that wild claim.. if it were not for the socialist elements in our own society, capitalism would fail tremendously. could you imagine pure Lassez Faire as Ayn Rand proposed.. that shit would be pure chaos and anomie. there would be no public education, no 911 dispatch service, no public libraries, no fire department except for those who could afford it. keep in mind, if your house is ever burning down; calling 911 is engaging in socialism.

I think you meant to point out flaws in communism. it's a common mistake but understand there is a distinction. you see, socialism is a mechanism for equality but the assumption is that it cannot be sustained alone because there are always greedy people who desire to dominate over others. this is where it shifts to communism However, if there was law forbidding a sovereign head such as a president, and people were more involved in localized government then this would not be a problem..
