  • Lovely video! May I ask something? Does it take you only one pass to get those lovely flat blacks? I'm finding that it's taking me at least 3 coats, and I still can't get a flat area of black. Also, I'm finding that ink strokes are significantly lighter when I try using a brush for lines. Is it the ink I'm using?

  • @Pepperwheel90 One to two strokes. India ink takes much more labor, and still won't get your black you desire. There is a trick with Sumi. Let it sit for a few days, and it will start to evaporate and break down. Add a little bit of water to get a dense black. India becomes too flaking, when trying this technique. At the end of the day, using sumi out of the can should give you the blacks you want. Also try Rapidograph ink, you can get a wicked black!

  • @Marciejjj I use Bic, but that is because that is what is at the store, but yep. Same thing. I go through a lot of them, so I try to get them cheap as possible.

  • @strangethingsmoss That's really cool, does it come from a certain brand? i.e. I got myself something from typp-ex in the shape of a pen, and you essentially squeeze it before the stuff comes out. I assume your's works similar?

  • @marcobm97 I use a 2ply bristol board:smooth. Sumi you have to use within the first couple of weeks, for it breaks down. I get really good effects though with old Sumi ink. I also use vine charcoal if I want a rough texture, or I use the side of an old brush. I would say Sumi is easier to ink with, for you get instant gratification, and you don't have to labor over the ink to get it really black, like India ink. I use a rapidagraphs/blue pencils. Never regular pencils

  • @Marciejjj It is a whiteout pen; When I first started to use it, I would use it to get a sketchy effect. You know, drawing flashlights, headlights, explosions, etc, etc. Later I found you can slow it down and get a chunky contour line. Very versatile!

  • Beautiful

  • Very nice video and it's always good to see how other people do their work.

One question though, that tool that you use to add white in the end, what exactly is that? And is it good for making nice highlights or is it more something you use to quickly indicate some lighting?

  • @MDthornton83 Thanks

  • Wow. Awesome.
