The kimura or hip bump sweep is a very high percentage sweep used in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Nogi Submission Grappling and MMA. It is taught at the basic level of grappling and can reverse a position in an instant.

hey ari, how would you posture up completely to get the sweep if your opponent is postured up and is pushing you down with both his arms? i tried this while rolling, and i couldn't get my up to my opponent since he had both arms pushing against my hip and chest. i'm sure theres a way to do it though, and i'd be thankful if you could tell me.

    cheers.

  • also known as a mountaineer sweep, you can get this sweep holding the sleeve of the gi with a cross grip and pulling then when your oppnent pulls back sit up hip bumb, when your oppent goes to post pull the arm.

If your opponent is using his hands to keep you down it is probably a better opportunity to break posture rather than attempt the hip sweep :-) its just a matter of the right move at the right moment

  • @scarface7117 Go train with someone who is a BB in BJJ - don't watch ari's stuff.

  • Used this in a wrestling match. Worked fairly well only because my opponent didn't see it coming.

  • Also, something I saw Ari, shouldn't your left leg be lowered a little? I know there's countless variations of everything in Jits, but it seems more effective when I use the other leg as sort of a trip, rather than hugging the hip with it.

  • @scarface7117 What I would do is wave his arms off so he can't post, and bring his posture down by pulling him in with your knees. When he postures back up, a majority of the time you can attempt the hip bump. There's no saying he'll posture back up though, so try looking for a flower afterward. Frankly if he's in your guard, it's a winning spot for you; he can't do anything but pass and you have a full arsenal of sweeps and submissions to your advantage.

  • i agree with Messy. If they're preventing you from completing the sweep then they are feeding you an arm

  • @crazyjake29 with the knowledge he concieves, he wears what he wants lol

  • @scarface7117 Just do one of the countless sweeps vs a postured up opponent. Jiu Jitsu is like chess, theres alot of "right" moves depending on ur style.

  • @Submissions101 oh rite, oki doki
