For centuries, this ancient breed of small horses have lived in the wild wetlands and Camargue marshes of Southern France. Born dark brown in colour, their coat lightens to a pale shade of grey or most commonly white by the age of 3. Rancher, Gilles Roussel's 'Mas Blanquet' is a 5th generation farmstead which was acquired by his great-great grandfather in 1792. Today, one of its primary functions is the champion breeding of these gentle natured animals which are used traditionally by 'Guardians' (Camargue cowboys) to herd bulls.
