The 800m world record is 28.5km/h for 1 min 41 secs. Here Joe lasted 1 min 17 secs, so splits were 50.5 secs at 400m, and 1.15 at 600m. He ran a total of 620m at world record pace. He was wearing the Trek Vibram Five Fingers for grip.

  • This is stupid

    1) The world record was from a dead start. It takes a lot out of your time to accelerate.

    2) The treadmill moves under your feet, you don't use a lot of muscles that you otherwise would

    3) there is no such thing as a straight 620m track..

    4) dumb

  • shut up bitch

  • How is this pointless, he wanted to see how long he could last at WR pace.

  • Impressive, pointless and hilarious in equal measure. Kudos.

  • great run :)

    and I love the vibrams!

    some thoughts...

from my (personal) experience, treadmills don't simulate a real environment exactly. even tho the speed says one thing, it can be off, in either direction. not being on the ground and instead having the 'road' move under you alters the run.

the runners also start from a stand still, and do not jump on a running treadmill, which makes a huge difference overall

and of course he wiped out, allowing him to just burn his reserves and crash

  • Well done, Joe!!! It´s rather remarkable the fact that you were using FiveFingers for the attempt, but in our humble opinion (5dedos.es), we recommend you the Speed or Bikila (LS) models rather than the Treksports you were using. Good luck next time!

  • Well done Joe, almost! Amazing performance and awesomely inspiring, best of luck with your next attempt! Holding thumbs.
