My mom told me a story her first car a ford explorer randomly speed up to its max speed luckily she spun out at 85 mph on a wide road then the car caught on fire and exploded But she got away I'm 11 and she drives a Volvo now she probably will never get a ford ever again

That was then, this is now. This time there are more Toyotas suddenly accelerating on thier own than Fords. Fords aren't as bad now as they were then.

As of now, there are very few if any incidents in today's Ford MotorCo. vehicles. Those Explorer incidents were then, this is now.

so would maybe disconnecting the cruise control line that goes to the throttle might help this from happening , i have two fords , both with cruise control .

I have a Ford Escape, now I'm wondering if I should worry. Although I think my first action would be to turn the engine off if it started accelerating out of control, or put it in neutral, rather then just trying to brake.

HOLY CRAP! I have a Mountaineer the "sister" of the explorer that is the same vintage as the run away explorers. Is there a way to prevent this other than no driving it? I always turn my cruise on so that all I have to do is engage it when I'm ready to use it does this mean that mashing the brake will turn it off if it engages its self?

You know... I really have to admit now that the thought of ever considering owning a Ford, scares the crap out of me. I knew about that older car with the rupturing gas tanks... but not this. The only thing that would help me regain my confidence in ford now would be if they TOOK RESPONSIBILITY for what they've done, and made sure nothing like that would ever happen again and the changes they make be kept very public.

@garagecrap You mean those smoke trails from jets? That's just from planes going over head. They're probably located near an airport or military airport.
Well that's one car brand off my shopping list.
