This squirrel came in with overgrown teeth from a cleft palate. She also has other issues. She has a seizure a day. Generally she's in her nest box when she seizes. This time she was sleeping outside her nest box. I only filmed the last part of it. The beginning of very violent where she literally flips around and screams. She will have to stay here in our sanctuary for life. I've moved her to a bigger cage since this video. We are licensed wildlife rehabilitators. • Is it common for squirrels to have seizures?

  • @Mehapants They will have seizures from poisoning or head injury, sometimes even extreme dehydration. One of her upper incisors was growing into the roof of her mouth. I removed it but she still has seizures.

  • It's so sad to see her like that. Can they do anything for her tooth and cleft?? I have seen squirrels over the years fall over sideways. I always thought they got hurt falling out of a tree or something. They usually didn't last long. I hate to see any of them hurting. I have a young one with very thin fur and was worried that she wouldn't make it through the cold but she did and thank God it's a mild winter. God Bless you for taking care of these animals. I love all your videos.

  • @Ginnymo62 She had surgery for her cleft palate, dental issues. This video is two month's old. She still has seizures. She's not full grown. I hope she can outgrow the seizures. Before her seizures she gets tired and goes to her nest box, thank god. This way she doesn't fall in her tall cage.

  • what do you usually do when they have seizures like this? is there any medications for this?

  • @suprmax I could give daily valium or pentobarbital. That tends to make them sit around and do nothing all day. She's not full grown yet. Maybe she'll out grow them, or not.

  • I knew better than to watch this. It made me cry :(

  • accept her legs & back muscles

    all else was "functional"

trauma induced in motor section of brain ,,

  • @SaeriJenn She has one seizure a day. It lasts maybe a minute. Within a minute or two after her seizure she is eating, drinking, playing with her toys. She loves to swing on hanging toys, wrestle with her small stuffed toy, hang upside down like a bat in her cage... She enjoys life. If she were miserable being kept, I would euthanize her if I couldn't find a way to make her happy.

  • aww..poor thing. God keep her in your care.

  • @SaeriJenn Yeah good idea. Let's kill all people who have seizures too because I'm sure they would rather die.
