  • A lot of controversy when he won this - he beat Orlando Vroon and Chad Jackson to win this. They did straight mixes and nobody in the UK was used to Cheese's kind of 'mixing'. I didn't like it at first and Cheese got panned by radio DJ Robbie Vincent. DJ James Hamilton was one of the judges and stated in his Record Mirror column that Cheese was simply way ahead of time and deserved to win. I've still got all the 1986 DMC contest mixes on tape and they sound pretty awful now - except Cheese.

  • and if my memory is correct chad jackson was giving it loads giving out about all the scratching and (check out chad in the 1987 championships) but when cheese was asked why he won did he not say "because my hands were the fastest"

  • He 3een thru alot and I'm glad to see he doing him again.

  • wow had this on cassette since 86 great to see it on film.... quality & nuff respect to all DJ's from back in the day....

  • he should win just for the fader being so far away

  • pure genius. years ahead of his time. maximum respect to dj cheese.

  • @ozulu45 i dunno, I always say that no matter what, machines doen't bring art to you, you have to bring art to the machine.

  • if you a club dj or backin up an mc on stage(which is rare now) thats cool. cuz bringing in 1,000 records is a pain in the ass. but DJ BATTLES? that aint HIP HOP to me, even though todays so-called tablist use nuthin but that annoying techno crap in the DMC that NOBODY knows.

  • @ozulu45 i gotta give you that.

  • @Coatl360 no cool with the push button dj's with pre-made techo mixes! anybody can do that! a little kid can do that shit! oh iam sorry it's called DJ HERO!

  • @ozulu45 i can see your point, cause although Serato is the new thing, the fact that they gotta go back and click on a song or make a playlist lightweight puts scratch DJs in a square 1 kinda place. but I will have to admit, if DJs can make anything creative with any kind of technology available to them and make it theres, then I give them respect in any battle.

  • uh mixing was still part of DMC until the mid 90's! but when all those wack ass BATTLE BREAK RECORDS flooded the sets! it got boring and uncreative to ME!!! i like PTRIX,SHORTKUT and Craze sets, but using SERATO???? live???? in a BATTLE!! makes no sense!! your not a "dj" and i know alot you newbie idiots will differ! but that shit requires noooooooooooo skill!! the whole level of using a known record died when Dmc allowed that shit! all i hear is rhythmless noises and that corny techno shit!
