The October 28th groundbreaking of the Long Beach Ronald McDonald House will soon improve access to vital health care services to children and families. The House is scheduled for completion in November 2011.

Why Here? Why Now?

The services a Ronald McDonald House provides are long overdue for the families of children receiving care at Long Beach area hospitals. The community and its leaders are committed to building a Ronald McDonald House in Long Beach. The new Long Beach House will transform an existing building purchased from Long Beach Memorial Medical Center that is within walking distance to Miller Children's Hospital. It is located at the corner of 27th Street and Pasadena. The Ronald McDonald house will offer 25 guest rooms plus dining and fellowship space.

The need for a Ronald McDonald House for families of children receiving care is underscored by the major expansions of Miller Children's Hospital. Miller Children's Hospital is one of only two children's hospitals in Los Angeles County and one of eight in California; it is the referral center for pediatric patients from more than 25 community hospitals.

What is the Ronald McDonald House?

The Ronald McDonald House was created as a way of alleviating a share of the challenges faced by families who discover that their child has a serious potentially life-threatening condition. In addition to attending to the complicated medical needs of their children, families struggle to remain together, maintain their jobs, care for other children or family members, keep up with medical expenses and address the effects of stress and uncertainty. The House provides comfortable rooms, meals, laundry services and a network of caring support that keeps families intact and able to focus on the medical and emotional needs of their child. There is no place in a hospital for a parent to stay with their child all the time; the Ronald McDonald House offers this support nearby.

Help Us...Help Kids

Once complete, the Long Beach Ronald McDonald house will offer its services to the families of seriously ill children. The vision for a Long Beach Ronald McDonald house comes at a unique moment when needs and opportunity intersect. A new chapter is written every day -- the mission is Love, Care and Support.
