I made a couple of edits to this video for time. See if you can spot them. I just take my time whenever I play a game, which doesn't really lend well to a first-time playthrough. Mega Man 9 was straightforward, but this isn't.

In this video, Zack wanders around the Sea Rabbits HQ and gets acquainted with everybody. You can think of the HQ as like the main menu, except with a lot more personality.

Zack then enters the area of the jungle known as the Pit of Tragedy. This is the first non-tutorial stage in the game. Wiki no longer guides you around to everything you do. You'll have to aply the basic concepts he told you to get through this one. Thankfully, your score (known as HirameQ for some reason I can't be sure about, since I got my copy of the game without the manual) increases each time you do something right, even if it's finding a snake in a jar.

I wonder how it's like from the point of view of the animal that gets turned into an object with Wiki's power. Do they see everythign that goes on, just that they're now immobile, or will there be a big gap of time in their memory during when they were transformed? Do they go back to normal after some time? (Which is a bit unnerving for the frogs that get turned into Frog Bombs later.)

My score on this mission was...not so good. I can understand the deduction in trying to move the pot with the snake in it, but how come I only got 100 points out of a possible 50,000 when Zack pulled the lever in the room? He couldn't reach the handle, and I think a failed attempt deducts 50% away. Is it because Johnny Style gave Zack an automatic big hint that deducts from the score that much more?

That line, "Hey, Zack! Glad to see ya in one piece!" always strikes me because of the phrase "one piece" being in there.

And isn't that Wiki's head on the lock to the treasure chest?

  • When you do another run through this stage try triggering the trap before activating the pilot thats probably how you lost alot of points.

  • I already figured it out since--you need to use the snake grabber to get the full points.

  • Lol, the snot rabbit totally reminds of Zill from Wind Waker.

  • Thanks. My copy of the game is missing its instruction manual, so I can't consult it.

  • I was carousing the walkthrough by CyricZ after I finished the game to see if I had missed any Bonelich encounters (and other things, I suppose), so if that's what you mean by the big FAQ, then yes. As for being explained in the manual, I'm not sure. I'll check that out.

  • I found this out on GameFAQs too. Is it the big FAQ? That's where I got it from.

(It's not explained in the manual?)

  • Hmm. Your source is probably most reliable, since I learned this from GameFAQs.

  • From what I read, it's short for "hirameki." Odd that it was left untranslated though.

  • If you're wondering about the meaning behind 'HirameQ', Hirame is Japanese for 'thoughtfulness' or 'wisdom', and the Q was added to make it like I.Q., as a pun, really. It's literally a Knowledge Quotient, if you will.

  • For some reason, I knew there had to be some sort of trap before you reach the treasure chest.
