  • Question: Is there a percentage of the foundation movements (toprock) needed to be able to even call it a Toprock battle? I understand the idea of incorporating other movements into a particular dance to make it your own or show diversity, but if the majority of movements aren't those of Toprock, is it still Toprock?

  • Really liked Flo Master's flava! But the judges pointed the right way.

  • @djmane1 I think toprocking is a much more dancing with steps than its roots aka the rockdance or uprocking since the 6-step and all those different funky steps were borned with breakdancing or b(eat)reak-boying.

  • @djmane1 What do you mean? Toprockin consist of jumps and steps while being on the beat. Doesn't matter how the steps or jumps look as long as it's on the beat. Sometimes you add you add upper body movements to it without moving your legs just to make it look funky and original. Showing your emotions (mostly being aggresive) while dancing to breakbeats. I guess the steps and jumps to the beats is what make the foundation itself. It just happened that certain moves became the basic, hiptwist, etc

  • @djmane1 Yes. If you watch the semi-finals between Mr. Freeze and Whacko, Mr. Freeze says he thought Whacko won. That's some incredible respect and humility from a Rocksteady original. That's good enough for me. We should all know our roots, but not be afraid to be original. The first bboys had to make new moves, so why shouldn't we? Isn't personality (and therefore originality, since we're all different) what it's about? Why does toprock have more restrictions than footwork or power?

  • @Imkidtaro energy level by bt express

  • @IamHopers superbbeatshow.blogspot. new episode with Whacko

  • @djmane1 I feel you, what @iamHopers is asking us to let something that is ambiguous stay ambiguous. a lot of people I know would call Top Rock "B-Boy freestyle" ... freestyle could be anything tho. Impossible to bound, but maybe we might be able to describe it according to what it isn't? someone might be popping or locking or waacking and we'd be like "that not top rock". back to the fact there's foundational moves. or is it the feel? we might describe top rock as "aggressive freestyle" too

  • @IamHopers yeah man, most def. But i was just trying to describe and break down what I saw in terms that I could communicate in words. I was answering Mane1's question as best I could. looking at structure and moves in a comp I feel is one of the few ways to differentiate two guys who are masters of dance expression if we're talking JUST expression and fun, it's a TIE. but both dancers have AMAZING TECHNICALITY. If it were just about fun and expression guys like Hella Hung would smoke everybody!

  • @djmane1 Yes, there`s not a clear explanation, because it doesn`t need to. This is not a science, but a culture raised from the streets, from different hoods in different places over the world, with different languages...

Toprocking is the act of rocking on top.

I understand your concern about studying breaking, but it`s more about reflection than studying.

    peace!

  • @IamHopers It's not about divisions, it's about me asking a valid question. I honestly don't think there is a clear explanation of what toprock is. If there is where can I find this information? Hmm..What do you mean about divisions? I can see they are having fun but what does this have to do with my question?

  • @djmane1 they are rocking on top, and having fun, that`s all u need to know... no divisions plz.
