TechnologyCompany Taking Bids to Clone DogsCompany Taking Bids to Clone DogsThe Associated PressA Northern California biotech company says it will clone dogs for the five highest bidders in a series of online auctions. As the AP's Haven Daley reports, some ethicists and animal rights activists are condemning the offer. (June 23)(locator - Mill Valley, CA)(Lou plays with dogs nats)LOU HAWTHORNE LOVES DOGS...ESPECIALLY HIS SHEPHERD-COYOTE MIX, MISSY. Lou Hawthorne, CEO, BioArts International, says: "She was extremely bright and extremely good with language. She would learn words very quickly. Toward the end of her life, she died at age 15 in 2002, you didn't have to use commands with you. You just spoke to her and she'd understand."BEFORE MISSY DIED, HAWTHORNE BANKED HER DNA. USING THE SAME TECHNOLOGY THAT CLONED DOLLY THE SHEEP, THE ENTREPRENEUR HAD SCIENTISTS IN SOUTH KOREA CLONE HIS BEST FRIEND, NOT ONCE BUT THREE TIMES. HE CALLS THEM HIS "NEAR MISSYS."Lou Hawthorne, CEO, BioArts International, says: "Now that we have successfully clones Missy, "Missy Accomplished" we like to say, we're looking at how to offer this service to the general public. Because our production capacity is relatively small and demand unknown but potentially vast, we think the only fair way to do this is by auction."STARTING IN JULY FIVE WINNING ONLINE BIDDERS WILL HAVE THEIR DOGS CLONED. BIDDING FOR THE "BEST FRIENDS AGAIN" AUCTION STARTS AT 100 THOUSAND DOLLARS. THEY'RE ALSO AWARDING ONE FREE DOG CLONING TO THE OWNER WHO WRITES THE BEST ESSAY ABOUT THEIR PET.(dog chew toy nats)Haven Daley, The Associated Press: "But not everyone's thrilled with the idea of dog cloning, especially with all the dogs out there waiting to be adopted."Jean Donaldson, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, says: "There's no shortage of animals in this country. There are in fact dogs wanting homes. We don't need to be creating dogs. Another thing, the technology's not very well worked out. It's not very safe and when there is a success and we've thrown all this money at it, quite often the animals turn out to have health problems."HAWTHORNE SAYS HIS "NEAR MISSYS" ARE HEALTHY AND HAPPY AND THAT HIS CRITICS' ARGUMENTS DON'T HOLD WATER.(dog water nats)Lou Hawthorne, CEO, BioArts International, says: "The World is overpopulated. Are you immoral for having children? I don't think so. If you want to go to a shelter and get your next dog, do so. It's a wonderful choice. It's a very positive thing to do. If you won't do go to a breeder, you can feel good about that as well as long as you go to a high-quality ethical breeder. Likewise, if you have an exceptional one-in-a-million dog, and usually these are mutts that can't be reproduced any other way, you can feel fine about going to a cloning company."RIGHT NOW HIS COMPANY HAS EXCLUSIVE LEGAL RIGHTS TO CLONE DOGS. • why are animal people so crazy lol

  • I think cloning animals is a good idea, I don't see anything wrong with it. While it is true there are animals that need to be adopted, sometimes animals can be cloned. Not only is this good for their owners, it also helps advances technology in the scientific department.

  • this guy is a fuck head tring to get rich

  • @Booshibonton ahhhahaha true that!!!!!!!!!

  • @karinablack

Agree, but a few years ago I had a siberian husky pup who I love to death and I'll get her cloned one day. Everyday I look at that dog and she just makes me smile.

I thin its amazing when a person and an animal form a close bond, and I'm not talking about anything perverted, just the trust, and companionship.

No matter what I'm doing or who I'm with, even if I'm having "fun" I still think it would be better if she was around at that time. She's just happy, consistent, & aloof.

  • ADOPT DOGS NOOBS!

  • i think this is a great idea especially 4 people with dogs that mean the world 2 them!

  • no, there is nothing wrong with pets- i have 3- but think of all the nice, sweet dogs that get put down just because someone decides they want that certain color or whatever. its so pointless, and COMPLETELY wrong.

  • Having a pet is ussually pointless too right?, it is about the personal emotional satisfaction you gain from having one and that is the same reason people are cloning thier dogs, I would do it too and there is nothing wrong with it.

  • alright, so do u agree that you said that we have 6 billion too many people?
