Hatikva

Hatikva ("la esperanza", en hebreo) es el himno nacional de Israel. La letra fue escrita en Iasi en el año 1878 por Naftali Herz Imber (1856-1909), poeta judío nacido en Zloczow (Galitzia).

En 1897, durante el primer congreso sionista, se convirtió en el himno del sionismo y fue proclamado himno nacional de Israel en 1948, año de la creación del Estado de Israel.
La música está basada en una vieja canción folclórica de Moldavia: Cucuruz cu frunza-n sus. Fue arreglada por Samuel Cohen y orquestada en 1897 por el compositor Paul Ben-Jaim.

Una parte del himno fue incluida por el músico Bedřich Smetana en su sinfonía "Ma Vlast" ("Mi país").

y dirigiéndose hacia el Oriente
un ojo aviste a Sión,

no se habrá perdido nuestra esperanza;
