PJ Harvey - The Dancer - Live @Brixton Academy July 2004

Yes, you've read it correctly.. this is the one and only 'The Dancer', performed live. I think you know by now just how rare this is.. for whatever reason, she's only performed this song a handful of times throughout her career and furthermore, to have it captured on video, well, that's even MORE rare. This is only one of four known filmed live versions of this song. One of the others is featured elsewhere on youtube (recorded in 1995 and filmed for the BBC). Then there are two more, which are briefly described in the initial few posts in the comment section to your left.

Ok, with those it makes four total. I guess five if you count that acoustic live performance back in '95 for that radio performance/interview thingy (I forget the name of the session). I'm drawing a blank if there were any more performances though.

Is the Eden Project the one she also did 'Ecstasy' and wore the white tassled/fringed outfit? My memory of all things Polly isn't nearly what it used to be.

She did play Ecstasy for the Eden project gig. Just her, Rob Ellis and Mick Harvey. She wore an impossibly short white dress (if you can call it that), but not the white leather finged outfit that she used for the 20030901 Tate Modern gig and the 2004 This is Love video. There is also video of her playing The Dancer for the 20060526 Hay On Wye gig.

Ok thanks. I'll update my description accordingly. I was burning out on the pj video collecting process around that time, so as much video as I've got, there are still some important gaps, including the Eden Project and that Hay On Wye one too, apparently.
