Purdue's Center for Direct Catalytic Conversion of Biomass to Biofuels, or C3Bio, will investigate methods to directly convert plant lignocellulosic biomass, the bulk of the plant, to biofuels and other bio-based products currently derived from oil by the use of new chemical catalysts and thermal treatments. The Department of Energy chose Purdue's project as one of 16 that will be funded by President Obama's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.The five-year project to develop direct conversion technologies of plant biomass to fuels.
