(cont.), especially after the Poms whinged bigtime when Akram/Younis reverse swinged the ball in 1992. However, to think of all that guilt, shame, and embarrassment Trecothick must have had to hide in his heart from this incident, so much so to the point where he spilt the beans on the Murrays mints episode...everything eventually catches up to you - whether it is ball tampering, match fixing etc.

(cont.) In fact, he went a step further by saying that he and other teammates had been doing it for years in country cricket and experimented with different types of mints, going as far back as the 2001 Headingley Ashes test where the mints spilled out of his pocket infront of the umpire and non-striker, who didn't pay any attention to it. They settled on Murray mints I believe, as it had some chemical in it that made the ball move. Anyways, it was very disappointing to hear what he said

I know this may sound controversial, and no, I'm not trying to be disrespectful or insensitive to depression victims as I have known many people close to me in my life who have succumbed to it. However, in the case of Marcus Trescothick, it didn't surprise me that his career was railroaded by depression and anxiety disorders when he came out 3 yrs after the 2005 Ashes series and said that England cheated by achieving inordinate amounts of reverse swing by putting breath mints on the ball

Miss Tresco playing for England - few openers as good as him and none as good a striker of the ball, great player and a strong man for overcoming his troubles. Wish him very well.

Remember him when England toured India in 2001-02 season .In the first ODI at Eden Gardens Kolkata chasing 282 he single handedly threatened to carry the game away from India and made 121 his century coming off 80 balls took all the bowlers including harbhajan and kumble to the cleaners only to be given out wrongly by the Umpire (LBW for a ball pitched way outside leg stump) . England eventually Lost because of the umpire but Tresco had already won my heart. Truly One of the finest Knocks Ever.
Wonderful player. Watch him alot at Somerset; he seems to be getting better with age! Massive shame he can't be a part of the England set up any more, he'd get heaps of runs for them still
