a serious tradition filmed July 11 2008. at about 4:35 minutes there is an irregularity. I still get emotional watching this respectful ritual.

  • @stingerkendris My good friend, tradition and respect is in play here, In my thinking The reason you are allowed to express your opinion here is because of the men and women who fought for freedom gave you this gift. a gift you do not hold dear until it is gone,

The tree of liberty is nourished by the blood of patriots. your opinion is noted and accepted, But talk to the father or mother when a son or daughter has been lost to conflict over what we take for granted, Thank you

  • @Slurrps Yes. Army because it is the senior service, and Infantry because it is the element around which all others provide support. Not to say they are less in any way whatsoever, but the priviledge is ours.

  • @jpo47mfo48 Put into that perspective I will agree with you and I sincerely wish you the best. Semper Fi (Army guy)

  • @jpo47mfo48 You misunderstood me . Not my unit. Please read my comment again. I RESPECT THE GUARD NOT FOR WHO THEY ARE, BUT FOR WHAT THEY ARE GUARDING. THOSE DEAD BODIES REPRESENT EVERY COMMON SOLDIER THROUGHOUT OUR HISTORY WHO, AS LINCOLN SAID:"GAVE THE LAST FULL MEASURE OF THEIR DEVOTION. THE GUARD AND POMP ARE THERE TO REMIND AMERICA OF THE SACRIFICES OUR SOLDIER'S HAVE MADE AND TO TEACH US TO SOME RESPECT FOR THEIR COLLECTIVE SACRIFICES.

  • @558cparker It appears that you have taken my comment concerning the physical appearance and job performance of the Guards personally. It's also evident that you consider my comment to be in a negative light, critical and judgmental. Nothing could be further from the truth. I simply stated that being a guard at the tomb should not, in it's self, bestow the title Best Soldiers in the Army. I stand fast with my comment.

  • @Photoshop211 When the oncoming Sentinel brought his rifle to port arms to prepare it for inspection, the motion tugged a portion of his blouse out which had been pulled tightly downward (to keep the uniform tight against his chest and assist with posture) and tucked into his belt. It simply needed to be re-tucked. That help?

  • @jpo47mfo48 the Sentinels of the TUS do not "doll up" nor "perform." They pursue the unachievable standard of perfection in every part of their daily lives and duties: uniforms, shinning shoes, weapons manual, standing guard, keeping vigil, etc. Ultimatly and effectivly sacrificing nearly all parts of their life to honor the ultimate sacrifice of those they guard; and they do not perform, period. They guard; hence the name "Tomb Guard."

  • @jpo47mfo48 Finally, before you proceed to pass judgement upon them, I am curious: do you know any personally? If so, than you would know that many Soldiers who guard the TUS have either served in combat prior to guarding the Tomb, or have since, continuing in their military career, gone on to deployments and even their death. (RIP: Ssg Adam Dickmyer TUS #528; KIA 28OCT10; AFG)

  • @jpo47mfo48 There are many great Soldiers, and all who serve their country honorably deserve respect. But few, less than 600, can say they were Sentinels at the TUS; have gone through a potentially year long trainnig cycle with an attrition rate of roughly 97%; have sacrificed their bodies, minds and familes to have the privilidge to honor the Unknowns and say "thank you," to become a Sentinel at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

  • It is interesting to notice the wear marks and shoe polish on the pavement. The visitors were quiet and respectful which is most gratifying to see.
