His preaching style turns me off - too emotional and maudlin - he acts like love is such an emotion - which it isn't but his message is right on target.

I hate all of you. You've turned my friend into some jesus freak who linked me this video.

@shadowhorse14 also... you have been following the rules out of duty like many other believers. it's because we try to earn His love. And, so, why would we love someone who expects 'so much' from us? Ask the Holy Spirit for a revelation of Truth that will set you free from trying to earn His love. Free to live in His grace and not work for acceptance. When we understand His grace and love, we are free from performance and respond with love. Galatians is an excellent book on freedom.

@shadowhorse14 i can empathize, and have experienced the answer! your 'issue' may come from another source, though. i did not love Jesus because i did not accept HIS love for me, personally. THAT must come first. the big break-thru was when I saw my flesh at it's worst and realized Jesus loved me WHILE I was "yet a sinner", WHILE I was sinning. His GRACE is everything to me! how can you NOT love Grace? As you see your NEED for Him, and His grace, you will love Him. it is just a response.

@shadowhorse14 Joyce Meyer teaches on the danger of feelings... we can't do anything or serve Christ based on how we feel. Sometimes we won't feel it, but it doesn't mean we should stop living for Him. "A Call to Die" by David Nasser is a good book... it takes the focus off yourself and back on Christ. Keep praying... is all I can say. Stay in community with other believers and daily in His Word. The desire in your heart is good, just do something about it :).

I thank God and pray for the elect who have the courage to accept what the scriptures say, that we must deny ourselves, die to our flesh, take up our cross and follow Jesus. Forget this carnal world and it's lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh and boastful pride of life, to walk in these things is to chase after death. Die to the flesh, be different, be salt and light in a dark place.

BEAUTIFUL RARE TRUE PREACHING, THIS IS THE TRUE GOSPEL!
THANK YOU GOD!!!! FOR MEN LIKE DAVID PLATT.

David Platt preaches the TRUTH of the Gospel. We are the ones who have dumbed it down to simply "asking Jesus into our hearts". He preaches just as much on grace, but Jesus did say, "If you love me, you will obey my commands" (John 14:15). It is an uncomfortable truth that cannot be denied.
The fact that this passage creates argument simply reveals the hypocrite in each and all of us. It is always easy to seek and find a word, or a slip in a man's message and make the argument about that. I'm sure Platt would be the first to say his message and his heart are not perfect. But he is right in saying that our hearts should be and CAN be for God first. Jesus came to show us what that looks like. He came to divide us from the things that interfere with our devotion to God. See Matt 10:34

I cannot believe how much this just makes sense? I am so thankful that a student of the Word can teach us the correct way of seeing the Bible. For years I would struggle with American Christianity and how it does not and cannot fit the example set forth by Jesus Christ and his Apostles. Praise the Lord for the message being sent without political correctness and cowardness. Praise the Lord that the message is biblical and Spirit filled.
