Heres a much loved "Horn Break" (@ 1.30) from Never Let Em Say taken from Ballin'jack: (Columbia 1970) as most famously sampled by GangStarr on "Step into the Arena" and Beastie Boys on "Shadrach"

  • The Band that was Too Good to be Successful. No established act dared to have Ballinjack open for them. Saw them in the early '70's opening for Grand Funk. So electrifying that GFR let the audience sit for well over an hour to cool down, before thay dared to come out.

how was the service? I know most of his bros and sister went, glad to hear any comments. Corinthia Rabb, I miss him so much!

  • Ballin'jack opened the show at my first concert at Swing Auditorium supporting Jethro Tull, I had seen this band 5 or 6 times at the Swing, and everytime, Ballin'jack sent the headlners to the showers early ....Luther Rabb WAS electrifying. Years later, I was lucky enough to meet Luther at his house on Formosa off Sunset, and sat and talked with him in his living room about Jimi, BJ, and the Live album they recorded at Swing, (I was there). Was at Luthers funeral, hearing "Found a Child" !!!

  • Luther Rabb was a great singer. My uncle played the trombone in this band. He also played the keyboard in it. His name is Tim McFarland.

  • Kim Rabb...your uncle was one of the best showman I ever had the honor of seeing in concert.. Can't forget that acrylic bass he had.. BallinJack was my favortie band back then.. I never missed a show when they came to San Diego..my condolences on his passing.. God Bless

  • Gangster Ass Anthony.

  • @lowriderbandfan Oh, my mom has great stories about Jimi and Uncle Luther when they were all kids and going to Garfield High. She needs to write a book, she has told me some funny stories about Jimi when he was young. Uncle Luther and Jimi were friends since elementary school. Voices From Home, the Hendrix books is all about his life in Seattle and interviews with his friends, hard to find book now but interesting and fun to read.

  • @kimrabb, Hi, nice to meet you, even if it's here on the net. Great story! And how cool it is to be have a history with legends?!! I'm sure you have a lot more great stories. Might want to right a book? ; ) Peace. : )
