Recorded with Neo Geo Home Cartridge System w/capture card
Excellent shmup, but you'd swear by the way this plays, you'd think you were playing R-Type. That's because some ex-IREM employees also happened to be on SNK's development team when they made this game.

Also, many traces of the anime "Akira" are abound in some of the game's backgrounds.

  • All good things must come to an end. And the Atomiswave didn't kill the NG as much as the piracy and change in the times did.

  • The Genesis was made as a watered-down (cheaper) version of Sega's System-16 board, which was already pretty old when the Genesis came out, and shortly started to show it's age and soon became obsolete in the arcades. Whereas the Neo Geo was a very new arcade machine at the time, and was into a (very expensive) home system when the arcade machine was still in it's infancy.

Basically we're comparing a waterdown version of a 1985 arcade board to the real deal version of a 1990 arcade board.

  • NEO GEO used a superb Yamaha synthesizer chip with PCM abilities. It got its own dedicated processor. If my memory is correct when I had this system and quite a large library of games; this system had 5 or 6 processors doing various functions. They advertised the Z80 and the Motorola 68000, but other custom devices were in the console. Even the carts themselves had additional processor(s) to manage memory. Music is incredible even all these years later. That's why is was so expensive.

  • @anunnaki2006 Lots of memory in those carts and you would get a bonus processor in some. I regret selling my NEO.

  • great shooter, pretty hardcore! like the atmosphere of this

  • The two greatest games consoles which were so advanced it was incredible. The amazing PCEngine and the incredible Neo Geo. The only downfall of the Neo was the price of the cartridges.

  • Last Resort was the most powerful shoot-em-up of its era with amazing graphics and atmosphere. There was simply nothing to touch it and the only draw back was the slow down now and then that it suffered but there was always a mass going on. The only other shoot-em-ups which came close in fun were on the PCEngine whilst Gradius III on the SNES was a good one.

  • One of my all-time favorites.. Play with the volume at MAX :-)

  • Good news. Apparently this one is coming to Wii Virtual Console soon.

  • The background of the first stage of this game makes me remember of Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira.

  • This game has an awesome soundtrack but I hate it! I can't get the tank.

  • lol at that boss that cums on you
