Yea, plastic and composite materials. Lancia in 80's was round 1000kg and +/- 500ks if I'm right. And audi had 1100kg and round 600ks, some time later it came on pikes peak with same engine and weight round 1000kg and showed americans how to do a proper hillclimb. Just Impressive! Wonder what cars what cars would they now use, and what would they look like if it wasn't banned in '86...

@yuabonuga Actually, the engine is in the rear part of the car, so what you are seeing is not "the beast wants out" :)

Look at the hood, the beast wants out ^^

Just look at the bonnet!!! It shakes every time he step the throttle... This shows how these cars were light! Almost everything was made of plastic! Certainly, securtity was not the main concern of it's constructors. That is the reason why one of the best drivers ever, Henri Toivonen, died, along with his co-driver! Henri and Sergio R.I.P.

@pedrodudu2008 The Delta S4 won the 1986 European Rally Championship with Italian driver Fabrizio Tabaton, whose car was run by Italian team HF GRIFONE in ESSO livery.
Henri Toivonen drove Lancia Delta S4 around Estroil F1 track in 1986 in a time, which would've qualified him 6th in F1 race. However, modern rally cars are actually faster in stages due to their highly advanced suspension and handling ability. Still, those cars at the time were insane, as the safety was next to none and they were doing sometimes over 230kph and carrying over 120 litres of fuel in a "chicken cage", as Hannu Mikkola (Finnish rally driver in 80's) described it.

Those Group B rally cars were really insane. For a short while they had better stuff than they did in Formula 1 (?).
