A really nice combination of the classic LTD Stirling engine and the liquid piston from a Fluidyne. Is it a Fluidyne? I am not sure of the definition but I thought a Fluidyne used unequal liquid masses in the displacer.
okay then, how about low boiling point Alcohol vapor, that should be a lot better than Air. use the lowest boiling point Alcohol and you should see a lot of difference in performance and heat exchange.
Like I have been preaching for along time now, replace the fluid with liquid Nitrogen. the lower boiling points makes it more sensitive to heat differences.

but the system would have to be under enormous pressure to keep the nitrogen liquid at room temperature
