use common sense people! if your vehicle takes off on you TURN THE KEY OFF AND IT WILL STOP! HOW STUPID ARE YOU PEOPLE WAKE UP!!

You know, the accident could've been prevented by setting the car to Neutral or shutting off the engine.

The drive by wire system has much lower spring pressure since it doesn't have a mechanical cable to retract. It's just too easy for them to get locked down because of floor mats, improper assembly, corrosion, etc. If they upped the spring pressure, and made more of the assembly out of sturdy metal components, this would probably go away.

they are...just get a proper fucking cable.

@taledarkside Yes, I never, ever believed these inflated statistics reported about Toyota and Lexus by consumer reports. Given that so many automakers have parallel manufacturing techniques it never seemed believable to me that they were ever so far above everyone else.
Toyota makes good cars, for sure. But so do many other manufacturers. The anti-American sentiment is probably their biggest boon of all.

make new cars like the old chevs

@Landrew0 No it is not over-engineering disaster, just dickheads engineers. With drive by wire you can bypass the throttle when brake is pressed. Like VAG group does (and others). After that, it is the quality design that matters.
Drive by wire is not better than using a $10 cable to connect the gas pedal to the throttle. It's over-engineering that is leading to disaster.

How could they have time to call 911 but NOT have time to either put in the clutch/put it in neutral (depending on transmission, or even, TURN OFF THE CAR
