This is not the norm, we normally launch with the mast's up, but the owner of Blue Spindrift was heading through the Forth & Clyde canal and you have to drop the mast for that. We have stepping and de-masting facilities at our club so it as easier for him to do it before launching.
I notice that you launch with the mast down. Wouldn't it be easier to step the mast ashore? You also have all the rigging to contend with on the launch.
