What: Driving Diary (12 month experimental project)

Where: South Australia

Why: To record 12 months of my life driving, and in the process reflect on my own driving behaviour and to possibly highlight how other ppl's behaviours can impact negatively on us. Accidents can be so easily avoided

Details: After spending an hour or so rigging my car camera (after months of researching what the best setup was going to be for my needs), I take it for it's first journey. 10 mins down the road, a car estimated to be doing perhaps around 120kms in a 60km zone fishtails behind me (not on cam) but steadies to keep driving by the time it passes me. Number plate obscured for privacy.

Comment: a bit pointless in the end as I only catch up to them waiting at the lights ahead (red car on right). Obviously given the car type, the driver's inexperience, the fact that it's a public road, and very slippery - this put themselves and me at risk and for what?

Incident: Significant speeding

Occupant(s): Appears to be teenage driver & passengers

Conditions: Light rain, greasy road

Date/Time: Thursday, 11 Dec 2008, 2357

Location: Main South Road (near intersection with Flaxmill Road)

Sound: Whatever is playing on my stereo, no sound is edited. Other static noise you may hear is when my window is down, my mic picks up a bit of wind noise & also the voice directions on my GPS.

Technical Notes: Pretty happy with how the cam handled first time out and in extremely low light conditions, the angle of the cam was crooked I see, and I'm still trying to work out the best camera position etc. I'm also happy I seem to get minimal camera vibration and shake in that camera position, esp given I have quite a sticky clutch and the local roads are quite poor.

This is for educational (not punitive) purposes, it is my belief that citizens shouldn't police other citizens.
