Installing Maxx Aspen 3 piece tub\shower in basement bathroom on concrete floor. Originally had a Maxx neo angle shower stall. It was my first time doing such a renovation.

  • Thanks for the comment on the post. I did not put anything under the tub for support. If memory serves the bottom of the tub was fibreglassed onto a piece of aspenite (chip board). The side of the tub (the piece facing you) is fiberglassed into the same piece of aspenite. The aspenite then lays flat on the concrete floor. There is zero flex. Hope this helps.

  • The pex pipe is pretty impressive stuff. This was my first time using it. I know that I could have rented a pex crimper for cheap, but I found it a better investment to by the pex crimper kit at Home Depot for $40. The only thing you really have to worry about is cutting the pex straight. You can buy a pex cutter, but I used a sharp utility knife and a bit of patience. Once cut, slide the clamp over the pipe, insert the joint (90, T, etc), use crimper to tighten up the clamp and its done.

  • Tks. Cutting the tub was the most nerve wracking part of the whole process. I used a hole saw. Actually I used two different sizes with the smaller one for the shower head. You can pick up a set of 4/5 for less that $30 at HD, CT, Kent, Rona. I did drill a small pilot hole with a 1/8th drill bit before using the hole saw. This pilot hole gave the drill bit in the in the hole saw something to grip so that it would not skate over the surface. I drilled it all from the back. Have fun ! :-)

  • Thanks for the great post. Did you put a mortar mix or foam under the bath tub? If not, does it flex? I have never done this install and am starting on Tuesday. You have a great idea with the guide stick.

  • Nice job. I've seen the pex pipe on some home improvement shows. Is the idea that it lays faster and you don't have to fool with soldering fittings together and all that?

  • I just bought this shower/tub combo and was pleased to see this video. What did you use to cut the holes in the walls?
