  • did u say innocent you must be american lol too funny

  • Agreed. It cannot be ignored that the fall of the Somali government and the rise of the warlords is the main reason for the desperation of the Somali people. Yet, some of the piracy begins as a way to try to discourage illegal fishing. All these social factors are at work, but it is just as probable the Somali's would have resorted to piracy even without the illegal fishing. They are thugs, no doubt, I just wish the media would allow for a wider context.

  • I agree with you but the reality is the warlords keep this chaos going which sets the environment for this type of desperation. NOT the fact that some people may or may not have dumped waste and or fished in their waters. Besides if there was illegal dumping of nuclear waste, why would they then fish there. BUT it is a story that needs to be told. It's just NOT the reason for the pirating.

  • No one is suggesting that what the somali pirates is doing is right. But these things don't just exist in a vacuum. The media takes no time to ask why this may be happening and it is far easier to just write them off as comic book villians. I am sure the last thing these people think is that they have any voice in the world. Struggle on the edge of starvation as the powers that be rape your resources...lets see what you become.

  • oh well that gives them the right to hijack and hold ransom innocent ships and people. Never once mentioning that that was their motive to stop dumping waste in their waters and stop stealing fish. Nope they only asked for money.
