There are two ways humans can interact with each other. 1 is coercion by force and 2 is by rational, logical persuasion.

I carry a gun to eliminate, or dissuade, people from choosing option #1. By eliminating their ability to use force, I am causing them to interact with me through logic and reason.

I do not carry a gun because I want to use force, I carry a gun to PREVENT coercion by force. My gun PREVENTS coercion by force. Perhaps that's why the cops are so opposed to armed citizens...

@Zen5012 Okay Gandhi - maybe you're right....maybe instead of police using "force" to stop criminals (they do exist in this imperfect world), perhaps they can bake people apple pies and hand out sundaes with cherries on top - including the freestaters who tout their own open carry guns around, which of course are only displayed because it's their right....certainly not for any force or intimidation. Right.

Until that point, we will continue to give men with badges and guns the ability to use force as a means to get the populace to abide by the bullshit edicts of a handful of "politicians".

You cannot choose the best means of protecting what is yours so therefore  you are not free.

You cannot tell The State no when they pass a law you disagree with so therefore you are not free.

Free is voluntary interactions.

Free is not being coerced by force to abide by the dictates of demigods.

You go ahead and enjoy your illusion of freedom. If it makes you happy, more power to you.

If your bitching about taxes...then when can I tell you - that is life - deal with it. Until then - perhaps you can dream up a way to pay for roads, streetlights and the other million things we as Americans take for granted everyday.
