I think the latest iMovie 09 with the latest updates handles AVCHD lite. I've got to say with everything I've been reading (I was thinking of getting rid of my Canon XM2/GL2), I might just stick with SD for now. I can't help that thinking that while I'll get nice quality footage with HD, editing won't be the completely straightforward process that I'm used to - unless anyone can put my mind at rest!

Every home camcorder has poor audio, but there are dozens of aftermarket mics, even one made by canon, that improve it.

is the audio as bad as they say it is?

Try adding &fmt=18 at the end of the watch URL.

It shoots 24p and 60i but i'm not sure about slow-mo. I don't think it has that option. Pretty sure it can't do that.

I see all these HG10 test shot videos, but the reality is that posting in this venue at such low resolution and compression is somewhat pointless. I would like to know how to maximize the compression/quality ratio for posting here, otherwise for the purposes, HD is a little useless.
