Watch full-screen, the paintings have amazing texture!

Step into the studio of Canadian artist JC (Carl) Heywood in Montreal, Quebec, on the banks of the Lachine Canal. See works in progress. Peek inside drawers full of visual options he draws from to achieve pieces created from layers and layers - from bits and pieces gathered in the fullness of travel, inquiry and exploration.

How does a printmaker transition into painting? In this video JC Heywood shows examples of how his current paintings are formulated using techniques that are an obvious reversion to (or continuation of) his printmaking days. And he always paints two of a kind in order to exercise his 'options' and to not feel limited to choosing one final colour or texture for a piece.

"Options, that's what life's all about. The more you've got, the better!'

- JC Heywood
