With the very intitiation of NAWAPA in North America, politically and economically, the land connection of the continents of America and Eurasia is placed on the agenda. The connection via the Bering Strait, a project that was first proposed in the middle of the 19th century, would lead highways and rail track through a tunnel underneath the icy ocean waters, and would include a gas pipeline, as well as power transmission and communications lines.
Construction of the Bering Strait Tunnel is an active agenda of many of the most important nations in that region.
One of the international specialists on planning and constructing infrastructure projects of this scale and kind, is Dr. Hal Cooper. Dr. Cooper has inspired and performed extensive feasibility studies on the rail and tunnel project for the Bering Strait, the rail connections within Alaska and Canada, as well as numerous other projects.
Dr. Sergei Cherkasov is a further international specialist for such projects. Cherkasov works at the State Geological Vernadsky Museum in Moscow, which is part of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He is a leading expert on questions of raw materials in the scientific tradition of Vladimir Vernadsky and Dmitri Mendeleyev, and is active in several international working groups on surveying undiscovered mineral deposits.

We need this policy orientation more than ever. The threat of new great wars, which the British and their American puppets are aiming at Russia and China (via Syria and Iran), shows that a totally new paradigm of economic and diplomatic vision is required.
This was the topic of a conference held by the international Schiller Institute in Berlin, at the end of last month: schiller-institut.de/seiten/201202-berlin/konferenz.html
I really recommend you watch the proceedings!

The purpose of a bridge, any bridge, especially this one has always been deeper than mere transportation of resources between two points. To go into detail what I'm talking about would require a whole doctoral thesis if not more - not a lot of space here unfortunately. So I will just simply say this - if one wants world peace, one must reconcile and build or rebuild the bridges inside before reaching out to the world.

In deed, this is a sad paradox in the evolution of humans. For how is it that ancient cavemen of MILLENIUMS ago is able to cross this measly gap(yes it was a different world then), but - in retrospect - humans today can't manage it given the advancements in technologies available today? I mean c'mon, its not like we're still paddling around in canoes and pulling sleds here.

Seems to me that tunnels and/or covered highways and rails would be the only practical method of construction for such a cold climate that is always subject to blizzard conditions in winter. A major highway would be impossible to use in winter without protection from the weather, and 911 calls would take hours to answer. Have they considered those scenarios?

@ECWnWWF I dont see why Americans and Canadians would want to illegally enter Russia or China. It would be the other way around.

I love how the normal response to proposals like these is that it is not feasible... why? We can eventually solve all of the technical problems. It might not "be feasible" under the current politico-economic system. But hell, look around you, that system is crumbling to dust... It's inevitable, this is the next evolutionary step.

I feel like the human race will destroy itself long before it recognizes this kind of potential. For thousands of years we've never been able to get along and we probably never will. The greatest we could ever hope for would be something like this at a state or mabey a national level, but never international.
