Every freshwater, dwarf shrimp enthusiast will eventually need to remove shrimp from their tank--be it to cull the population for selective breeding, selling, giving some to friends, etc.--

IMHO, this shrimp trap is a better alternative to trying to net your shrimp. It is easy to make out of any small plastic bottle and literally takes a few seconds. It is very effective, as can be seen in the video. Just don't leave the trap in the tank for too long; the shrimp will exhaust themselves trying to escape and the low water circulation will eventually result in casualties.

Shown: 58 gallon CO2-injected, freshwater planted aquarium featuring Red Cherry shrimp.

  • How does the top part stay on? Sticky tape or Wat?

  • @ishy2217 - the lid stays on by sheer weight. Unless you have a lot of current in your tank, it should not be a problem.

  • what are the two black things???

  • @MsZoologist1 - Otocinclus. Some people commented that they are tadpoles but they aren't. They are one of the only fish that won't eat the shrimp.

  • what is that really nice plant in the middle back looks redish and sought of like a lilly ?

  • @smarty12421 - I think they are Tiger Lotus and sold as dried out bulbs in many aquarium stores. Not all the bulbs end up germinating but when you get a healthy handful of lily plants, they will propagate smaller bulbs over your tank--not sure how since it doesn't flower but I find these little bulbs now and again, each with it's own baby lily plant. These come in green and auburn color--a great contrast from other types of aquarium plants and are super easy to grow.
