Christians often spout "Jesus died for our sins". without really stopping to think what it actually means. In fact no matter which way you look at it the statement is full of ambiguities and problems.
Is there anybody out there who can explain what it means (without actually just repeating the statement itself)?
N.B. If you are not aquainted with the comedy of Father Ted there is a later video "ONE question for Christians", that dispences with the characters in this video - URL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArmiNCGXhvY

  • if you're going to put across your views of religion on youtube don't use Father Ted show to do it - it's comedy and it's not really that political or religious, it just takes the piss out of Catholicism. What you're doing on the other hand is ruining my favourite comedy series by turning it into some stupid philosophical bullshit about god and stuff and that is not on mate, seriously fuck this video....

  • @Shaftsus You're entitled to your opinion but no way can the likes of me take away from the brilliance of Father Ted. The fact that they are Catholics is irrelevant to the philisophical question i raise. I'd have made the same video had they been Protestants (spawned from the Catholics anyway).

    Two points:-

    1) I was hoping to give publicity for this brilliant series to a wider audience while raising a serious point.

    2) I already remade this video over a year ago, Tedless watch?v=ArmiNCGXhvY

  • @pilgrimpater im okayz thanks - and this video is stupid cuz it makes out Dougal to be smart : (

  • @Shaftsus Best line ever (unfortunately i have to paraphrase as i don't have the best of memories):- Ted has checked his diary/calendar: "Dougal do you know what today is the anniversary of?"

After a few useless guesses, Dougal comes up with: "Would it be the end of the ice age then Ted?".

    F'king priceless.

  • I like it, thanks very much for this educational video

  • @Shaftsus but this isn't Father Ted. It just uses their character to convey the point of the video.

  • @N64isgreat I'm not religious, this just wasn't funny and father ted was supposed to be funny...

  • @Shaftsus its not really his concern if it somehow ruins father ted for you and it was your decision to watch this anyway. Looks like your a stumped religious person who just wants to put this video down because you cant deal with the questions. Fuck you.

  • I thought this video was pointing out the silliness and danger of that kind of faith. Believing is a need. The only thing there is evidence of is recycled bits of older mythologies and highly dubious translations of things written long ago. To make it even better, most of the people who are serving as mouthpieces for organized religion are far from scholars. If humans don't let go of these childish needs, "I believe there is evidence" that we are doomed.

  • It's a catchphrase that doesn't mean anything..... oh, Mrs. Doyle.. a cup of tea please!! :-)
