http://www.thecolourofhope.org/ British Charity, The Colour of Hope, works to reduce poverty, advance education and promote employment among disadvantaged people in Peru. Our current priority is to help young people leaving care homes in Lima, Peru's capital city. Most of these young people have previously been street children, suffering from physical and psychological abuse, extreme poverty and drug addiction. Once they grow up, they're forced to leave their care homes, find a job and start supporting themselves, but the difficulties they've suffered, lack of support from their families and insufficient financial resources make this almost impossible. Many end up right back where they started -- on the street. The Colour of Hope supports these marginalized and disadvantaged young adults as they leave their homes. We help them to integrate into their society and to find dignified employment. We give them a chance for change. Please contact us if you want to learn more about The Colour of Hope and our projects or if you're interested in sponsoring a young adult, holding a fundraiser, making a donation or being a volunteer in Peru. Please help us to provide a chance - a chance for change. info@thecolourofhope.org

  • great work, hope these kids are able to be functional members of society long-term, you guys have the right approach to a well-rounded rehabilitation. I know it's hard when there are larger structural changes needed in a country's economic/political institutions, but not being able to address these fully doesn't devalue the importance of your work in any way. My mom was a Lima street kid too. I finally get to visit Peru in a few months! It'd be nice to visit you guys rather than just be tourists

  • thanks for the positive comment Hellena44. Sorry to say though our project isn't operating at the moment. I can put you in touch with some of the care homes we've worked with though if you'd like. That way you'd still be able to visit some projects in a similar field, and, as you say, get away from just being a tourist. feel free to drop me an email and I'll send you some details.

  • Wow, this hurts to watch, I spent two weeks in lima on a missions tripand I'm just dying to go back.!

  • We just recently returned from Peru. While there we saw large outdoor advertising that said something to the effect of asking people NOT to give money to the child street buskers.

Can someone PLEASE post or send me a copy of the sign and or translate what it says.

ALSO.. if the tourists dont help the street kids who is? What support systems ARE in place please? Im intending to raise awareness of the childrens plight but I need more information. Any help will be appreciated. Cheers
