got an '11 liberty. love every crease of this car.

According to the Car and Driver "Mud Puppies" review in 2008 the following were competitors to the Liberty:
RAV4, CRV, Rogue, Escape, Tucson, Vue, Grand Vitara, and Outlander.
The liberty came DEAD LAST in that comparison by the way. The Tucson pulled a stuck liberty out of the mud in that one. The Tucson also had better approach and departure angles as well. Guess who got the worst mileage?

@pcmr57 Name one. And the Escape or the CR-V are NOT competitors of Jeep.
-
There are competitors that get much better mileage than the liberty that are also 4x4 compact SUVs.
-
I think you're correct but it still gets terrible mileage for a 3.7 liter engine.
-
@pcmr57 The reason it's rated lower is EPA estimates were revised for 2008, everything dropped in mpg pretty much. They went back and revised cars before 2008 too

I have a 2004 Liberty. I like the style of mine better but this new one is still very nice. The major draw back of the Liberty since it was new was the terrible gas mileage. The newer model is rated 1-2 mpg worse! I can't believe it could have gotten any worse.
Still a very nice vehicle though.

I own a 06 and although I like the 08 redesign, I prefer the look of mine; much more sporty. The new one is too refined and city. Who wants a city Jeep? And what's with the rollaway roof? It's just something else to malfunction and leak. And did they make the rear cargo room any larger? It looks smaller to me. And what's with the integrated headlights? They seem much more susceptible to rocks and breakage now. And why are all bumpers and fender flares painted now? The gray is better.
I own a 2008.. and believe me they did a great job on the new look and feel. Its a joy to drive it every time!

@pcmr57 Nobody buys a Jeep for the gas mileage. If that's your concern, I would suggest a Honda Civic.
