Prem Nazir - A grand reception

25 years back when Prem Nazir was conferred the Padmabhushan, a grand civil reception was held in Chirayankeezh, his hometown. Although initially it was meant to be a rather small function it turned out to be mammoth gathering. Public life virtually came to a standstill on that day. Prem Nazir was carried in a 'swan chariot' from his house to the meting place. It took several hours for the procession to reach the stage. The meeting extended well to the midnight but nobody left till the end. No Keralite, living or dead, has been accorded such a grand reception.
