I'm glad you did supported the dancers. They get precious little for their efforts as it is. I'm sorry I misread your original comment. I see now that you mentioned being there : ) Posting the name was worth it, though, as many don't know the name and will read the comments.

@veja24seven Absolutely! This is in the Valley of 1000 Hills, probably PheZulu. The dancers there are purely touristy.

To intimidate, freak out, and scare away the potential aggressor, so that you don't have to fight. Same as the dance, or more like part of it. Better to advertise "don't fuck with me" than to fight. War and violence are always the last thing that anyone wants, because they have very high risks for the community. Better to make lots of noise, show you can fight via you dance skills, and scare the marauders away. That is what I do. Feels very natural to me.
