In her Southern California home, best-selling vampire novelist Anne Rice discusses her conversion from atheism to Catholicism during Pope Benedict's visit to the U.S. Full interview can be read at www.MelanieHebert.com
She's actually a Catholic revert, and not a convert. I know of lapsed Catholics that have been deeply moved by her story. I am grateful to her and God for it. I am sorry for those who hate the church so much... "Not 100 in the United States hate the Catholic Church, but millions hate what they mistakenly think the Catholic Church is." ~Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen
So, she claims that Atheism is not reality but that Christianity which persecutes gays, condemns greed while collecting billions every year is more reality based?
She says Atheists aren't asking the right questions. It's Christians who are forbidden to ask questions. She obviously can't make up her mind, and is guided by fiction to bring meaning to her life. Not all atheists are the same, & being atheist doesn't mean you have to stop searching for God. That's the Christian view, not reality.
I'm agnositc, I love her compassion for the catholic church and her ideas on 'improvements' as I come from a mixed religion family who don't have a problem with my homosexuality and belive that god loves you aslong as you don't hurt others
I am a Christian and i love the vampire novels. If Anne Rice really reads this I want her to know how happy I am she has returned to god. You are one of th great American authors up there with Hemingway and Twain.
I have yet to read Memnoch but I haven't really seen any thing in your writings that slandered the church, so enjoy them for what they are 'AMAZING FICTIONAL NOVELS'. Thank you for the hours of entertainment you have provided me.
theCravenHeart -- I am writing more now than ever, having just completed two books about the life of Jesus, and a spiritual memoir, and I have two thirds of a new Christian novel finished. For me this is a happy and productive time. I hope you will give the new works a chance. Anne.
makineko -- your comment startles me. I don't recall ever trying to trample on anyone else's beliefs. Christians seem especially vulnerable to that charge. I get the feeling we are do discredited in the eyes of atheists that they simply assume we are trampling. Not so. I have great respect for all people who believe in values more important than selfishness, greed, ambition and the like. Thank you for your comment but you leave me puzzled.
Trample on the beliefs of others? I have no idea what you mean. I have many good friends and many readers who aren't Christian. I couldn't imagine trampling on their beliefs. Perhaps you misunderstood something that I said. Those of us who take the Christian path do so with enthusiasm and love, and I don't think our faith should offend others. Thank you for posting, Anne.
you know Anne Rice, just because you have faith in something doesn't mean you have to discredit the opinions of non-believers. what's wrong with atheism? you have a view point, and others have theirs. it is uncalled for to trample on the beliefs of others. that arrogance is what leads many people to shun christianity. christians believe they are right and there is no other "truth" in the world. which is no wonder why the other half of the world thinks you're all lunatics.
