Your view is sound. I did see the McGarrigle sisters live in Cheshire, Vermont, about three years ago. The performance seemed tired and "going through the motions." A single Montreal-based guitarist provided backup.
That the performance was pedestrian didn't bother me. I wished they had done what many performers do is take a few questions from the audience.
I love the McGarrigles and their music. BTW, Anna was interviewed on Fresh Air (NPR). Look for the Archive.

@lskarin I enjoy the live versions the most. Its so real no production bullshit just talent the essence of the jam itself. Theres nothing to date it , leaving it Timeless. Amazing. The McGarrigles are fucking amazing really. True talent.

This song DEFINES depression. Yet in all the McGarrigle albums they have a range of very happy to very sad.
Live performances are bad to post because after performers have done it 500 times or so, something gets lost. The original is best. I haven't seen Pronto Monto yet on CD. Deserves to be.

hi, i love this live version, equally to the recorded version, seeing them do it 'live' enhances the beauty for me. Just glad to have it on video.

yes. I've always loved this song. That whole album is great, a bit darker. The arrangement (for me) is just perfection. Also love the album Matapedia. Thank God for talent for many of us to admire.
