Pacifism is an unpopular philosophy and stands in sharp contrast to radical Islam, civil religion and most conservative Christianity in America.

  • I have two questions. Ghandi was not a christian, do you think his efforts in non violence really made peace? I know it says in the bible "blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called sons of God". Is there a difference between being called a son of God and being a son of God, or is God calling peacemakers sons of God? If Ghandi was not a christian could he really make peace?

  • @aSinnerTalking Gandhi read the sermon on the mount when he got the idea for nonviolent resistance and he said all India would be Christian if Christians did what the Bible says. Was Gandhi a Christian? I don't think so.

  • How can you protect an innocent if you yourself are dead? now I'm not saying that I want to kill anyone I hope that I never have to make that decision but God who is always the same has called for war form time to time and the deaths of those who murder, but it is never for the use of promoting or the spreading of the Christian faith, Jesus never forced anyone to follow Him as far as I know. This is a vary complicated subiect.

  • @faithfulstronghold How far would you go to protect the innocent? What sin could be justified? Adultery or denying Christ? It's a slippery slope: shall we do evil that good may come?

  • Be careful in thinking "Pacifism is an unpopular philosophy" people would love to stay passive and rich in that you do not spend so much on a military budget, and let God deal with the warring world by himself.

I know this might come as a shock but... I think Satan HATES America for defending South Korea (a now booming Christian region, with some free thinking atheist, amount other heathens).

  • thanks for putting that out there, i feel the same way and had a similar idea about suicide bombers, i wanted to go to afganistan and be a suicide bomber of love after i watched the movie ghandi. But I was talked out of it, and i think I still had a lot to learn.

  • @Svennusmax In fact, atheism does conclude that humans have no unique value and that no objective morality exists. Therefore, atheism DID inform the murderous actions AND politics of Mao and Stalin.

  • @NadNareek Neither Stalin nor Mao ever killed anyone out of atheistic extremeism. That doesn't even exist and isquite frankly impossible. They killed out of their political beliefs, i.e. communism with a tyraniccal influence. Using Stalin and Mao as examples is the same as saying people with mustaches or of chinese heritage are mass-murderers. Typical Strawman-arguments.

  • @Svennusmax Yes, I think between Stalin and Mao, they murdered 100,000,000 people. That's not just a lot of zeros.

  • I sincerely wish you were right. But,apart from the explanatory directives in the bible promoting violence in the OT which youll probably reflect by saying Jesus settled that debt (how convenient), religion in itself promotes, advocates and condones(silently or not)religious violence. Let's call moderate religion "the maffia-boss's wife", since it's essentially the same. Defending my own standings on life; has any atheist ever flown a plane into a building on purpose because of his beleifs?
