O Principado do Mónaco é um microestado situado no sul da França e faz costa com o mar Mediterrâneo. Possui aproximadamente uma área de dois quilómetros quadrados e é o estado com a densidade populacional mais alta do mundo. Mônaco é um dos seis microestados da Europa.
Monte Carlo é um bairro do Mónaco, a nordeste da capital do Principado (Monaco-Ville). Conhecida estância luxuosa, conhecida pelo seu glamour, celebridades que enxameiam as revistas cor de rosa, praias e casinos.
É aí que se situa o Circuito do Mónaco, onde decorre o Grande Prémio do Mónaco de Fórmula Um. É palco, ainda, de competições de boxe, apresentações de moda e outros eventos de grande repercussão cultural.

Monaco, officially the Principality of Monaco (French: Principauté de Monaco; Monégasque: Principatu de Múnegu; Italian: Principato di Monaco; Occitan: Principat de Mónegue), is a small sovereign city-state located in South Western Europe. Monaco is the name of the country as well as the name of its capital city. The territory lies on the northern central coast of the Mediterranean Sea, has a land border on three sides only with France, and is about 16 km (9.9 mi) away from Italy. Monaco is often regarded as a tax haven, and many of its inhabitants are wealthy and from foreign countries, making up a majority of the population, at around 84%.
Monaco is a constitutional monarchy and principality, with Prince Albert II as head of state. The House of Grimaldi has ruled Monaco since 1297, and the state's sovereignty was officially recognized by the Franco-Monegasque Treaty of 1861. Despite being independent, Monaco's defense is the responsibility of France.
Monaco is the world's most densely populated sovereign country, and the world's smallest French-speaking country. An average person takes only 56 minutes to walk across the width of the country.
Monte Carlo is one of Monaco's administrative areas, sometimes erroneously believed to be a town or the country's capital. The official capital is Monaco-Ville and covers all quarters of the territory. The old town of Monaco-Ville surrounds the palace on the southwest side of the Monaco harbour. To the west is the new suburb, harbour, and marina of Fontvieille. On the other side of the rock and around the harbour is La Condamine and resort of Larvotto with is on the east.
Monte Carlo is home to most of the Circuit de Monaco, on which the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix takes place.
